MILFORD, Conn. ? Subway rules the fast-food marketplace in terms of healthy options and customers seeking that type of food, Marketing Daily reports. The sandwich chain?s huge promotion to push its healthy fare has paid off with Subway capturing 76 percent of lunch and dinner quick-service orders bought for health, according to ?QSRdna? by CustomersDNA.

The study found that Subway was far in front of McDonald?s (11 percent of healthy orders), Wendy?s (10 percent) and Burger King (3 percent). Among customers who consume lunch/dinner at fast-food restaurants, 15 percent said they pick menu selections for ?health? reasons some of the time.

Those healthy eaters go to a leading chain (Burger King, McDonald?s, Subway or Wendy?s) close to four times monthly. But ?health? isn?t the only criteria for picking what to eat: value or taste matter, too.

?Consumers who cite health as driving their fast-food choices on at least some occasions clearly view Subway items as being somewhat healthier choices,? said Dave Jenkins, a principal in CustomersDNA.

The survey also questioned consumers about specific healthy menu items ordered. The top 10 items came from Subway, with the number-one healthful option being Turkey Breast, followed by Veggie Delite and Oven Roasted Chicken Breast. Subway also ranks first among ?mega chains? for ?healthy options? in the 2009 and 2010 Zagat Surveys.
