CONCORD, N.H. ? The University of New Hampshire did an about-face on its recent decision to ban energy drinks on campus, instead indicating it will look into the idea and solicit student input, the Associated Press reports.

On Monday morning, the university said it would take away NOS, Red Bull, Moxie Energy and Full Throttle from all cafes, convenience stores, dining halls and vending machines because of safety and health concerns. However, by Monday evening, the UNH president released a statement that because of differing reports on the beverages? sugar and caffeine content, and students? uproar on the decision, the university would halt the ban for now.

?I want to be sure we respect our students' ability to make informed choices about what they consume,? said Mark Huddleston.

Some universities have banned alcoholic energy drinks, but none so far have prohibited regular versions. Mount St. Mary?s College in Los Angeles does not offer the drinks in dining halls, but does stock them in vending machines.

Red Bull issued a statement that its energy drinks meet all federal standards. ?These drinks have a similar caffeine content as coffee and do not contain alcohol. Since it would not be right to ban the sale of soda, coffee, or tea on a college campus, it's also inappropriate and unwarranted to single out and restrict the sale of energy drinks,? said Red Bull. ?We are working with the University of New Hampshire to find a resolution.?
