?NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan ? During the past 10 years, the number of convenience stores that never close have added 3,809 locations since 2000, an increase of 67%, according to the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), Taiwan Today reports. The number of 24/7 locations stood at 9,483 in 2010.�
New Taipei City has the largest number of convenience stores with 1,916 locations. Holding the second and third places, respectively are Taipei City with 1,455 stores and Taoyuan County with 1,113. Taipei City also has the highest store density, registering 5,35 stores per square kilometer.�
FTC officials said that convenience stores have become an important part of daily life for many Taiwanese residents. In addition to purchasing daily necessities, customers use the stores to pay bills, such as parking fees, and to pick-up online orders. The services beyond food, beverages and cigarettes brought in $330 million annually above regular sales of the usual items.
More than 2.7 billion customers visit the stores each year. The top three convenience store operators in Taiwan include Uni President Enterprises Corp., Taiwan FamilyMart Co. Ltd., HiLife Co. Ltd. and Circle K Convenience Stores Ltd.?�
