WASHINGTON ? A Shell station in Laurel, Maryland, was one of three sites nationwide to help promote the Discovery channel?s new season of ?Gold Rush? by giving away $20 in free gas for each fill up from 6:30 am to 9:30 am ? which in D.C. translates to rush hour.
Fortunately Discovery chose a Friday to hold the promo, which it footed the bill for, when traffic is typically lighter in the D.C.-metro area.
The promotion, called ?Strike it Rich,? took place in Chicago, Washington and Los Angeles ? three cities known stressful morning commutes.
?We all know that the economy is tough,? Discovery Channel CMO David Shackley. ?The men featured in 'Gold Rush' are hard-working Americans, like our viewers, who are taking risks and trying to make a decent living. This is our way of giving back to the community with a little liquid gold to start the work day on the right foot.?
?Gold Rush? is a reality show entering its second season: ?In the face of the economic meltdown, determined men risk everything to strike it rich mining for gold in the wilds of the far north.
