Page Content: CARY, N.C. ? The Pantry Inc. announced that its Florida Kangaroo Express locations have raised more than $233,000 for Give Kids The World Village (GKTW), a 70-acre, non-profit ?storybook? village in Central Florida that provides cost-free, weeklong vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
?Give Kids The World is a compassionate and dedicated non-profit that helps share the magic found here in our backyard of Central Florida with kids from all over the world,? said Paul Moody, division vice president at Kangaroo Express, in a press release. ?We are honored to do our part in helping fulfill the wishes of these inspiring children and their families.?

To support the fundraiser, customers bought a $1 or $5 pinup to hang in the stores pr donated their change at the register. ?We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kangaroo Express and all the great people of Florida that helped raise over $233,000 for our organization in just 30 days,? said GKTW President Pam Landwirth. ?Their donation will help Give Kids The World continue its mission to provide the happiness that inspires hope for children battling a life-threatening illness.?
Meanwhile, Thorntons Inc. and the American Red Cross joined forces to show their appreciation for soldiers of Fort Knox, Kentucky. As part of Thorntons Humanitarian Day event held on Nov. 16, 300 Thorntons team members traveled to Fort Knox to assemble 200 bicycles and 4,000 care packages for the American Red Cross? Santa?s Workshop program and for soldiers returning home from Afghanistan.
Every year around the holidays, the Fort Knox American Red Cross? Santa?s Workshop program opens its doors to allow soldiers and their families to ?shop? for free toys for their children. In recent years, there has been a high demand for bicycles. Because of the limited funds, Santa?s Workshop has not been able to meet the demand.
Last year, after learning about Santa?s Workshop program, Thorntons partnered with the Red Cross and provided 100 bicycles and 3,500 care packages to soldiers and their families. ?This is our chance for our team members to give back to the soldiers at Fort Knox,? said Matt Thornton, president and CEO of Thorntons Inc. ?We want to thank all the men and women overseas, fighting for our freedom, and for all the sacrifices they endure while protecting our country.?
The bicycles and care package supplies were all purchased, assembled, and donated by Thorntons, with help from key suppliers including Consumer?s Choice, Hershey?s, and Advanced Pierre Foods.
