Title: Georgia Voters Approve Sunday Liquor Sales
Description: Now the question becomes when stores will start selling alcohol on Sundays.
Page Content: ATLANTA ? This week, most of the localities that were considering allowing Sunday alcohol sales approved the change, WABE-FM reports. Now the only question residents have is when Sunday liquor sales will begin.
Each municipality will determine the start date. Jim Tudor, president of the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores, said gasoline stations and convenience stores should ask local government officials for that date.
The association, which lobbied hard in support of Sunday alcohol sales, is pleased with the outcome. ?There is historical data that indicates that there's typically a lift in sales when you're able to service your customer 7 days a week,? said Tudor.
While convenience stores and supermarkets won?t have to change their operational hours to comply with the new law, package stores will have to open on a day they traditionally closed. ?Your cost of doing business is going to increase,? said Stony McGill, assistant director of the Georgia Alcohol Dealers Association. ?Again, I don't think because people can buy it on Sunday that they're going to consume more product and purchase more product. They may just buy it on a different day.?
Currently, only two states ? Connecticut and Indiana ? totally prohibit any type of alcohol sales on Sundays.
