NEW YORK ? Candy makers have been adding liqueur to their confections for quite some time, so it should come as no surprise that beer is putting its stamp on tasty bite-sized treats.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that when Nicole Greene, proprietor of online and wholesale confectioner Truffle Truffle, decided to add beer to her products, she realized that she had hit a ?pivotal moment? in her career. Today, her top seller is the ?Beer and Pretzel Collection,? featuring truffles, marshmallows and brittle, that was inspired by her ritualistic purchase of a Bud Light and a soft pretzel at Yankees games.

The Journal notes that Greene ?is one of a growing number of confectioners who have crossed what may be the final frontier in candy flavoring? with beer, and who have found a way to proceed without charring the beer (candy-making requires high temps). Also, the high cooking temps burn off the alcohol content of the beer.
In November, Vosges Haut Chocolat introduced a ?Smoke and Stout Caramel Bar,? which is the same company that made folks salivate with its savory/sweet chocolate and bacon creation, ?Mo's Milk Chocolate Bacon Bar.?

For some confectioners, ?beer candy is an economic boon,? writes the Journal, noting that companies who specialize in beer candy are flooded with orders around the holidays, Super Bowl and Father?s Day.
