ATLANTA ? Could every state have a smoking ban by 2020? According the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it?s likely.

Based on the current pace states are adopting antismoking laws, every U.S. state may have a ban on smoking in restaurants, bars and the workplace by 2020.

?It is by no means a foregone conclusion that we?ll get there by 2020,? said Dr. Tim McAfee, director of the CDC's Office on Smoking and Health.

The projection is based on the rate at which states have been adopting comprehensive smoke-free laws. In just the past 10 years, 25 states and the District of Columbia have enacted these laws, the CDC report said.

The study lists the states that have smoke-free laws, as well as the seven states with no smoking restrictions in place for private worksites, restaurants or bars: Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, West Virginia and Wyoming.
