MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. ? Google Wallet has added or enhanced its service to a dozen new retailers to its payment service, Online Media Daily reports. The mobile payment system now can be used at the NJ Transit, where bus and rail passengers can pay with Google Wallet, and Pinkberry, D?Agostino and Chevron also coming on board.

Google also said recently that it will support SingleTap, which lets customers pay and redeem discounts immediately with certain merchants ? including American Eagle Outfitters, The Container Store, Foot Looker, Guess, Jamba Juice, Macy?s, Office Max and Toys R Us ? through Google Offers. ?It's about connecting with consumers,? said Pam Naumes, digital director at Pinkberry yogurt company.

Near field communications (NFC) also supports Google?s most recent operating system known as Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0. Google?s next incarnation of Ice Cream Sandwich will sustain music, payment and photo services in the cloud.

ABI Research predicts that 78 percent of all NFC handsets will have an embedded secure application within five years. Contactless technology such as NFC could potentially change how shoppers purchase goods, especially for those transactions under $25, said Craig Foster, senior analyst at ABI Research.?
