SMYRNA, Ga. ? Come November, voters nearly 100 cities and counties in Georgia will get to decide whether or not merchants can sell alcohol on Sundays. The Georgia Food Industry Association (GFIA) revealed that 97 cities and counties throughout Georgia are set to hold Sunday sales referendums during the November 8 general election. These areas represent approximately 2.5 million Georgians living in all parts of the state.
?We would like to commend the city and county leaders throughout the state who have decided to give the people the right to choose what is best for their communities,? said GFIA President Kathy Kuzava, in a press release. ?This effort has always been about our industry?s desire to serve our customers. If the referendums are successful our customers are ones who will benefit.?
In April, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed Sen. John Bulloch?s Senate Bill 10 into law. The new law gives the decision on whether or not to allow Sunday retail alcohol sales to individual cities and counties. Visit gfia.org for a complete list of cities and counties with Sunday sales referendums.
